Netherfield Colwick Sidings 1996
Просмотров 1,6 тыс.3 года назад
Continuing adventures of the unhinged Eric and mr Webber as they explore the area of Colwick Sidings in 1996. This video references and earlier video shot in 1986 and looks at the changes since then. Now of course it has changed even more but its interesting to look back.

Here's a stereo recording of the popular song 'Whistler and his Dog' composed originally by Arthur Pryor in the early 1900's. This is taken from a JVC Demonstration Tape that came with new boom boxes and cassette recorders circa 1982. it was created to show off JVC's 'Biphonic' sound enhancement system. The B side was called 'Los Enamordos' and can be heard here: ruclips.net/video/YDcnNvxEx3k/в...

All the worst amateur cameraman's faults. But helps illustrate how successive Labour councils mucked up Nottingham town centre big time. And this was shot just about when the UK's coal miners were committing suicide, and the town's money was drying up.
And who shut all the pits?
@@marklongdon2435 Cheaper Polish coal pits and their products, amongst others. But doesn't excuse council ineptness and wrong decision-making.
@@user-re2fl3sh2d And which government were buying the cheaper products? That's why the miners were striking. I never said the labour councils weren't at falut. But then as now that's only part of the picture. The reason that labour councils are failing now is because the tory government is reducing the funding from central government. I am not here to point the finger in one direction because I am not blinkered into one party. I look at all causes of an issue.
City of Robin Hood . Now its Robbing Hoods.
0:31 this still image perfectly encapsulates British town planning and architecture. A beautiful Medieval building (which will be used in all the promotional bumph to celebrate the city) and then vile 1960's prefab asbestos ridden monstrosities next door. Only we British spit on our heritage like this. that house on the left is older than the United States ffs.
Thanks for sharing this. Did 2 years at Clarendon College starting in 1972. This video brought back a lot of good memories.
It’s weird but even though I haven’t lived in the UK for over 30 years, and I haven’t visited my hometown Lincoln since before Covid, this all looks so familiar, as if I was there yesterday. I know things must have changed - they were modernizing the market area last time I was there, and the bus station was all different, but watching this has the effect of making me believe that if I went back it would all still look like this.
I still love my city despite what they've done to it 😢
I was there same year on school trip, happy happy days, great to see it.
I was 3 year's old when this was filmed 🎥 Beautiful Lincoln. Still live here to this day March 2024!
I was 5…. And also still here May 2024 🎉
Ha so was I!
I wonder what happened to the Zyclon roller coaster. I have a vivid memory of seeing it in around 1988 but I'd have been about 4 years old!
Woohoo! I found it!
Wondering if anyone remembers the Snooker club?
When travelling funfairs were proper funfairs, not like they have today, like amusement parks. Back in the day I worked for Pat Collins done 14 seasons with them good old days.😊
All my memories are flooding back. All i need to see in hockley back in the day. Notts today is a shadow of it`s forma self.
Great to see the market square when it was a welcoming communal space a far cry from the faceless baron version we have today 😢
The good old days, when it was diesel fumed, onion filled atmosphere. Never get them days back
The buses looked lovely back then, not plastered in advertising.
Pre Xylophone man
Back in the day before pronouns 😂
And to think just 7 years later I would be stood in slab Square as a 12 year old watching forest players with the European Cup 😁
Before all the rides switched to LED signage, it looked so much better back then.
Thank you for a great trip down memory lane. I went to Clarendon College in the 1970s and have fond memories of the town. We lived in Wollaton near the park. Emigrated in the 80s to the US so its wonderful to see this video. Thank you.
Wow traffic still bad then
Hi, Nottingham City Transport are making a video to celebrate their longest serving drivers retirement(Started in 1974). Would we be able to use some of the bus clips from this video? Will include an on screen credit, and it's to be used on their Facebook page uploaded over the easter weekend. Thanks!
Yes no problem at all!
@@bonearrowgroup That's great thank you!
I remember that blue ride at the end of the pier..called the enterprise if i recall..
Blimey, I'd have been 10 months old when this was taken. Fascinating how the city centre and uphill looks largely similar, but the University has now dwarfed the entire Brayford pool area.
Our beautiful city, then some idiot builds an ugly cinema and even uglier University next to the Bradford to spoil it. That classic view of the cathedral gone forever, shame.
A close relative of mine always called this city "The land of the ignorant".
I've lived here all my life I must say I've never heard that saying lol, there might be a few! But that's the same in any city isn't it? 😂
@@djmastergroove946 Lol yes i think it's fair to say it probably is.
Omg I can't belive some of this dangerous over the top scary rides was out 25 years ago
Very atmospheric. I kept expecting to see a younger version of myself at any time, but it never happened. Nottingham city centre - and most other cities - is just a shadow of what it was like in these days.
Road markings? Yeah, what happened to them?
This video is crying out for a soundtrack of hits from 1986.
Good to see a few buses. Nottingham had their rear engined double deckers fitted with unique bodywork, custom designed to the Corporation's own specification.
I found it! This tape came with a jvc boom box I had in the 1980s.
Young man then, happy and positive, fit as a fiddle, manageable mortgage and a wife and two lovely children. Millions like me. Then along came Tony Blair and the rest is history.
How beautiful the castle looked, back then, unlike now, devoid of trees and shrubs, just grass, grass, and more grass. Sad.
I can remember Nottingham City centre well. I was only about eight years old at the time, living in Bulwell. Me and my mates used to catch the bus (81?) into the city centre and hang around the castle. I also remember Old Market Square with the fountains, Odeon Cinema. I remember going around Victoria Centre and Broadmarsh Shopping centre with my mum. We could never afford to go to Mcdonalds or Wimpy at the time or buy anything from the nice shops, we were living on the breadline and very poor. Despite that, there was some good memories and I worked my way out of the poverty trap we were in.
Hi there, can ITV News Central use this video on-air please with an on-screen credit? Thanks Peter Bearne
Yes no problem..when will it be shown?
That’s great. Thanks very much. It will be on Nov 9th
Aww that Ronald is so sweet he’s amazing

We sailed on this ship when about 35 years ago when I was a teenager. Such an interesting ship & the food was absolutely delicious!
Not anymore
Now then, now then young man 👨 😀
Omgg,good ,mr!=)
Pretty footage captured from the air
AW! IT USED TO BE SO GOOD!
Thousand pities that this was done five years after the closure of Victoria Station. A number of commentators had not been thought of until after the station closed. Why you let this priceless asset close beats me. Nottingham's rail communications have been poor ever since, and the only remaining station is poorly sited for the City Centre. Nice to see a picture of Huntingdon Street Bus Station, closed 1972, replaced by a monstrosity full of fumes in the Victoria Centre, which I gather is now closed. The way the planners messed about with the city at this time was incredibly short-sighted, obliterating Arkwright Street altogether, and severing Carrington Street in several places for the Ring Road and Broad Marsh. I could never live in a city whose planners (and Dr Beeching) were hell bent on getting rid of the main railway station.
